How To Write A Pearl

We are very interested in your Pearls. Sharing our Pearls is what makes PearlSoup work. With your contributions, this community will be richer for all participants. Pearls are a special form of written story. They are made up of the moments in our lives that help us to understand ourselves, others, and the universe around us. We call them Pearls after the well-known expression "Pearls of Wisdom". Although this expression is occasionally used by cynics in a negative way, we earnestly believe in the value of everyone's experience. For us, wisdom could be defined as "knowledge that is life enhancing".

To write a Pearl, you must first discover them in your own life. By reading other people's Pearls, especially the ones you find most valuable, you'll get a sense of what they're about. They are written in first person and are based on REAL things that happened in your life, NOT FICTION. You may come to recognize one of your own Pearl experiences right after it happens, or many years later.

Pearls should generally be between 100 and 1000 words long. Tell just enough of the story to communicate the point effectively. Keep it concrete, and SHOW the reader what you experienced, rather than telling the reader what to think.
